Belfast International Airport is seeing a surge in the number of passengers coming from the Republic of Ireland. The airport says that Republic of Ireland car park transactions for the period 14th July to 14th August were up 135% on the same period last year. This delivered a revenue increase of 250%.

Using the airport’s own on-line car park booking system, 11% of the total were registered vehicles in the Republic of Ireland. The increases mean that over the course of this year, the International Airport will welcome more than 600,000 RoI passengers.

Belfast International Airport Managing Director, Graham Keddie, said: “This is a quite incredible performance. People from across the border are getting amazing value for their euro at present and are making the most of the exchange advantage.

“We also embarked on an extensive advertising campaign in the six southern border counties and that has obviously paid off too. It has been so good that we intend rolling out a second campaign shortly.

“Generating business of this magnitude, and producing a revenue increase of an incredible 250%, shows there’s huge potential across the border.

“We offer a great list of UK and international destinations to both the continent and the United States of America and are determined to expand routes to offer greater passenger choice.

“We’ve now had 25 months of double-digit growth and we know that 2018 will be every bit as busy. That translates into more routes, more jobs and more investment.”
