Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council has agreed a Capital Expenditure Programme of over €742 million. The Three Year Capital Programme 2018-2020 will deliver a considerable number of infrastructural and housing projects that are of strategic importance to the County and the Region from both a social and an economic perspective. This will shape the development of the County, creating the right environment for economic renewal, jobs growth and promoting a quality of life for all.

The total cost of all projects is €742 million, of which is estimated €496 million will be incurred during the life of the programme. This funding will be sourced from a variety of sources

The Programme highlights are:

  • €226m for social housing
  • €202m for development of infrastructure for the new town at Cherrywood
  • €75m for road infrastructure for the development of lands at Kilternan/Glenamuck
  • €33m for road and public realm projects that will allow for the future growth of the Sandyford Business District.
  • €206m for public realm/quality of life projects, including the development of Fernhill Park in Stepaside, the development of Phase 2 of the Samuel Beckett Civic Campus and the redevelopment of the Dún Laoghaire Baths.

Philomena Poole, Chief Executive of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, said: “This Capital Programme will lay the foundation for sustainable growth in housing and infrastructure underpinning the County’s competitiveness. The Capital Programme demonstrates the Council’s commitment to achieving its targets for housing delivery and in building infrastructure to permit future development. The scale of investment is unprecedented in capital projects in this County and I believe that it represents courageous investment in the long-term future of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown.”

An Cathaoirleach, Councillor Tom Murphy, said: “I am delighted that this Programme provides for balanced investment across our county. I am particularly pleased with the investment in public realm and community and social infrastructure. Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown is recognised as having a high quality public realm and the Council has endorsed its commitment to build on this by providing significant investment measures to improve quality of life. This is a key priority of mine. Supporting and establishing sustainable communities and providing opportunities for an active county is vital for the health and wellbeing of our citizens.”

The Programme will be reviewed on an annual basis and projects may be added if funding and other opportunities arise.
