Wolfertschwenden, 28th November 2013 – At interpack 2014 MULTIVAC will be presenting its extensive range of services for the life science and healthcare industries. The packaging specialist offers flexible solutions for the packing of sensitive medical and pharmaceutical products in single or combination packs. MULTIVAC also has flexible solutions in its product range for the packing of small and medium-sized batches, for data handling and for traceability marking (Track-and-Trace).

GMP-compliant machine with a high degree of flexibility

MULTIVAC’s main exhibit in the MCP area (Medical, Cosmetics and Pharmaceuticals) is a packaging solution, which is based on a thermoforming packaging machine in the MULTIVAC Clean DesignTM. The machine concept was designed for applications, in which a high degree of flexibility is required.

The thermoforming packaging machine offers a high degree of flexibility with regard to the packaging materials which can be run, the possible packaging formats and the batch sizes. Make-ready times are minimised thanks to the quick and reproducible format change. The systematically modular construction of the new thermoforming packaging machine enables a high degree of flexibility to be achieved, particularly as regards the machine layout, its potential for expansion and its product discharge. It also enables automation, identification and inspection solutions to be comprehensively integrated in the machine.

The innovative machine concept was also designed with reliable line clearance in mind. This enables a strict separation to be achieved between the product processing area and the machine technology area. Transparent enclosures with large doors protect against direct access and environmental influences. The enclosures also offer perfect visibility and ease of cleaning.

Packaging in film pouches and trays

With the C 400 TC model MULTIVAC is showing a special chamber machine for packing sterile medical products in pouches. It has sealing bars, which can be permanently heated and temperature controlled, and this allows qualification and validation of the sealing process. In addition to this, the C 400 TC recognizes each pouch holding device, when it is inserted, without requiring any contact and solely by means of RFID tags, which are integrated in the holding devices. The correct recipe for the particular holding device is automatically loaded in the machine control. This system opens up the opportunity for the medical industry to configure its packaging procedures in such a way, that they can be reproduced and tracked reliably. The entire procedure is also documented seamlessly and monitored continuously.

From its traysealer range MULTIVAC is showing the semi-automatic T 260 traysealer, which is designed for medical and pharmaceutical applications in small batches. The T 260 is characterised by its solid construction, optimised dies and IPC control. Thanks to these features, this model ensures that high levels of sealing quality, process reliability and reproducibility are achieved.

Data handling and Track-and-Trace

With the inclusion in its product range of the Folding Carton Labeller from MULTIVAC Marking & Inspection, the MULTIVAC Group has a labeller, which applies a label to seal the tuck-in flaps of folding cartons for medicines. This gives the packs a tamper-evident security, by which consumers can recognize immediately whether the pack is intact. A data matrix code for serialisation can be printed on the tuck-in flap by means of an integrated printing system.
