Iarnród Éireann union announces warning of a strike. The train drivers plan to take industrial action if they do not see improvements in their terms and conditions, such as a shorter work week.

The statement was issued by the National Bus and Rail Union and management plans to hold negotiations that are expected to last about three days starting today at the Workplace Relations Commission.

One of the main arguments is that the drivers want to receive payment based on productivity as well as a shorter work week as those in the UK.

NBRU General Secretary, Dermot O’Leary and Assistant Organizer of SIPTU’s Utilities, Paul Cullen stated that they have been working on negotiations for the last ten years and it has taken work stoppage for management to recognize their concerns.
