Start-ups in the sportstech industry are being targeted in an innovative new competition entitled ‘The Front Runner’, aimed at showcasing this country’s talent in the sector. Enterprise Ireland is putting forward a cash prize of ten thousand euro to help take these businesses to the next level.

The contest is the latest element of the One-Zero 2019 programme to be unveiled as the team gears up for its event at the Aviva Stadium on September 17th.

The contest is looking to showcase start-ups from the areas of Broadcast & Media, Sponsorship, Fan Engagement and Esports – each of which are main pillars of content on the programme of One-Zero 2019.

Dublin City Council and Dublin Business Innovation Centre are also supporting the contest which is open for entries until Saturday, August 24th.

Four finalists will then be selected to pitch to the One-Zero 2019 speakers and audience on September 17th and answer questions about why they should be named the inaugural ‘Front Runner’. The winner will be selected through a process involving an audience poll and a judging panel including Benjamin Penkert, founder of SportsTechX and representatives from DCC and Dublin BIC.

CEO of One-Zero 2019, Patrick Haslett said: “We’re thrilled to launch ‘The Front Runner’ in the build-up to September. The SportsTech scene here in Ireland has been going from strength to strength in recent years, and we view this as an opportunity to uncover the next wave of talent. It’s also a great show of confidence from Enterprise Ireland by sponsoring the cash prize, and we’re delighted to have their support.”

One-Zero 2019 marks a step up in scale for Dublin City Council when it comes to engaging with the business in sport sector. Spokesman Steven O’Gara said: “The Front Runner competition is about building Dublin and Ireland’s capacity and activating our ability to compete in a dynamic global sports market. Dublin City Council are proud to be supporting One-Zero to deliver this brilliant opportunity and showcase the innovation within an emerging and thriving sector.”
