Chambers-Ireland-LogoChambers Ireland has recently launched a new Business and Commercial Mediation Scheme to promote a cost effective way for businesses to resolve commercial disputes.

The scheme, which is supported by the Courts Service of Ireland, was developed in conjunction with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, the Law society, the Bar Council of Ireland and the Mediator’s Institute of Ireland.

Business disputes can be financially damaging and going to court can be a polarising experience. The goal of mediation is to resolve disputes and to preserve relationships.

This scheme encourages Irish business to consider mediation when disputes arise in order to save time and money. Research has shown that mediation helps to preserve business relationships, encourages dialogue between disputing parties and resolves disputes in an efficient and cost effective way.

Provided both parties are willing to mediate, all kinds of business disputes can be resolved through mediation, such as: Shareholder disputes, Boardroom disputes, Contractual disputes, Debt resolution, Defamation, Negligence, Partnership disputes.

As part of this scheme, Chambers Ireland are hosting half day Mediation conference on November 20th from 10am to 1pm, in the Law Society, Blackhall Place. A list of high profile speakers from the business community, judges and practitioners will discuss the issues surrounding mediation. The conference is free to attend and will be of particular interest to those involved in dispute resolution, HR, legal services, consultancy and workplace relations.

The Business and Commercial Mediation Scheme is co-funded by the European Union and is part of a cross-border European project called “Mediation meets Judges (MmJ)”. The MmJ initiative focuses on the promotion of mediation in civil and commercial disputes and the increase of judicial engagement with mediation.
