With Android phones becoming so commonplace, so what if they are compared to sugar water? In fact, Pepsi appears to have gone full hog and licensed its trademark for use in a new line-up of US$200 smartphones.

PepsiCo Inc is working with a licensing partner to make a line-up of mobile phones and accessories in the next few months.

The devices will, however, only be available in China and, according to Pepsi, will be similar to how Pepsi has begun licensing its brand for use on apparel and accessories.

It subsequently emerged that a new Pepsi-branded smartphone, the Pepsi P1, will be revealed in Beijing on 20 October.

The device will have a 5.5-inch 1080p display and will have a 1.7GHz processor, some 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, according to Mobipicker.

It will feature a 13-megapixel rear and a 5-megapixel front camera.

Running Android 5.1 (Lollipop) the device will cost US$205 to buy.
