SEAI_LogoThe Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) today announced that Dr Brian Motherway will leave his CEO post in SEAI in early December to take up a new role as Head of the Energy Efficiency Division with the International Energy Agency in Paris, France.

Dr Motherway has been Chief Executive for three and half years.  During his tenure, significant progress was made in promoting sustainable energy use, with major investments in energy efficiency by businesses, homeowners, communities and Government, along with substantial growth in the use of renewable energy in Ireland.  He will formally resign his position on 2nd December 2015.

Julie O’Neill, Chair of the SEAI Board said that Brian has been a champion for sustainable energy opportunities in Ireland.  “He has brought a depth and breadth of understanding, which has progressed the sustainable energy agenda to one, which is now accepted as a vital component of Ireland’s economic recovery and competitiveness.  His experience, insight, and his work in the enhancement of SEAI as a national strategic state agency cannot be underestimated and these skills will stand him well in his new role with the International Energy Agency.”

She added that: “This senior international opportunity is recognition of his outstanding work in the area of sustainable energy. It is also an opportunity for Ireland to strengthen the relationship and existing links with the International Energy Agency.”

The recruitment process, to appoint a new CEO, will now commence with a public competition, which will be conducted through the Public Appointments Service.
