Solar AdTek, the leading developer and supplier of innovative solar powered and LED lighting systems for outdoor advertising, has completed an upgrade of the lighting in advertising displays across the CIE’s Out of Home advertising estate. Solar AdTek’s bright LED lighting with smart controls replaced fluorescent tubes in bus and rail station advertising displays nationwide.

This lighting technology generates energy and carbon savings of 78%. The new system provides pro-rata savings on electricity costs and the reliable long life of LED lighting will significantly reduce maintenance costs.  Solar AdTek with installation partners, Global Rail Services, completed the lighting installation, across all Iarnród Éireann stations in May 2018.

The project:

  • Over 600 advertising displays nationwide converted to LED lighting with smart control
  • Energy savings of 1.075 Gigawatts annually
  • Carbon savings of 572 tonnes annually
  • Reduced maintenance costs
  • Long life 50,000 hours + with 5-year warranty
  • Vibrant, more uniform lighting.

Eoin O’Broin, CEO of Solar AdTek, said: “We were delighted to have the opportunity to design and manufacture these LED lighting solutions here in Ireland for this project. Using this as a reference, we now aim to provide these similar solutions to transport networks internationally.”

William Pierce, Manager, Energy and Environment at Iarnród Éireann, added: “Iarnród Éireann has reduced energy consumption by 32%, while increasing services; the savings amounts to 39% when normalised for increased services. We are ahead of our target of 33% improvement by 2020, and it is innovative projects like this that help us to continually reduce our impact on the environment.”

Mel Kellegher of CIE’s Commuter Advertising Network said: “Out of Home Advertising is an industry that is constantly evolving and adapting to new technologies. Following extensive investment in new advertising plant across the CIE estate in recent years, we are now delighted to collaborate with Solar AdTek and Iarnród Éireann on this project to enhance our existing displays and reduce energy costs.”
