Jaguar Land Rover, UK’s largest automotive manufacturing business, has signed an agreement with the government in Slovakia to build a new plant for the luxury car maker in the country.

The British company, which is owned by India’s Tata Motors, is planning a plant near the city of Nitra, about 65 miles west of the capital Bratislava, that could produce up to 300,000 cars a year.

“It’s a great success for Slovakia,” Prime Minister Robert Fico said after a signing ceremony.

The plant should open in 2018 and create up to 4,000 jobs.

Slovakia is a regional car-making powerhouse with Germany’s Volkswagen, France’s PSA Peugeot Citroen and South Korea’s Kia Motors Corp all having a major plant in the central European country of 5.4 million.

Jaguar Land Rover is transforming its business to realise the full potential of its brands and deliver profitable results. Driving the business is a world-class team of 32,000 people globally. In addition the company supports more than 210,000 UK jobs through the supply chain, dealer network and wider economy.
