Aer Lingus have announced that the airline will offer direct flights from Dublin to Miami, Florida, from 1 September 2017, as well as increasing the number of flights to other US cities, including Los Angeles, Chicago and Orlando.

The Irish airline also intends on opening Summer routes to Split, Croatia, and Porto, Portugal. Charlie Taylor reports in the Irish Times that the Miami route  is the 13th transatlantic route operated by Aer Lingus.

Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, welcomed the news, saying, “as an island, the importance of convenient, direct, non-stop flights cannot be overstated – they are absolutely critical to achieving growth in inbound tourism.”

Tourism Ireland’s Situation and Outlook Analysis Report found that, during the first eight months of 2016, visitors from North America grew by 15% compared with the same period during the previous year.
