Java Republic won the award of Beverage Company of the Year at the recent 2019 Food & Drink Business Awards. These prestigious awards celebrate the very best in food and drink manufacturing, retail, and food service across the island of Ireland. The Awards recognise the very best in the industry across 18 categories.

For Java Republic winning Beverage Company of the Year could not have come at a better time, as this September they celebrate their 20th anniversary. Indeed, 2019 has proven to be a year full of milestones for the company. They kicked it off in January by winning the award for Sustainable Manufacturer of the Year at the inaugural IMR Manufacturing & Supply Chain Awards. Following on from this, in May they announced that they were joining forces with the Spanish coffee company Cafento, who are partnering with existing management to drive the expansion of the Java Republic brand into international markets.

Java Republic are suppliers of Ireland’s most premium coffee and 100% organic tea. They supply over 1,200 businesses throughout the country, from restaurants and cafés, to hotels, offices and more. Java Republic’s ethos is ‘Coffee with a Conscience’.

When David McKernan set up the company in 1999 he had a vision to create a coffee experience that was unparalleled in its quality, transparency and commitment to sustainability. Throughout the years they have remained wholeheartedly committed to this vision and in doing so have become one of the most successful players in the industry.

They are the first purpose-built carbon neutral roastery in the world. Not only that, but they have continually paved the way when it comes to sustainability and CSR. Java Republic were one of the first in Ireland to introduce 100% compostable cups to their suite of products. They have also recently undertaken a pioneering initiative with Oberstown Children Detention Campus as part of their ongoing CSR activities. Their expert barista trainers have provided on-site barista training to the young people, with the goal being that they will be able to embark on a professional barista career once they leave Oberstown.
