Speacsavers opens 50th Irish store creating 8 new jobs

Model mum and wellbeing expert, Alison Canavan, and her son James officially opened Specsavers’ 50th Irish store in Ashleaf Shopping Centre, Crumlin today.  The landmark store opening created eight new jobs for the area and is the 13th Specsavers store in Dublin.  Specsavers is a group of independent local businesses and since opening its first Irish store on Henry Street in 1991 has continued to expand its presence throughout the country, employing almost 1,000 people nationwide.


Specsavers Crumlin is a state-of-the-art facility which houses two optical testing rooms along with a soundproof room to ensure the best results when conducting hearing tests.  The new store is overseen by store directors Seamus Breslin, Edwina McKinney and Peter McGrath, together with a team of experienced optometrists, audiologists and highly trained staff, providing customers with unparalleled service and value for money.


Speaking at the opening, store director Edwina McKinney said: ‘We are delighted to have reached the major milestone of opening the 50th Specsavers in Ireland and to have created new job opportunities for the local community.  This opening illustrates the consistent growth of Specsavers in Ireland, which is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff.  We look forward to welcoming customers to the new store which offers exceptional optical and hearing services along with stylish yet affordable eyewear to the people of Crumlin.’


Specsavers believes in giving back to the communities in which it operates and its chosen charity is Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin.  Since 2014, it has raised in excess of €100,000 and will continue its fundraising efforts throughout the year for the development of the Department of Ophthalmology.


Committed to bringing the latest equipment to its customers, Specsavers Crumlin has digital retinal photography, which allows optometrists to take a detailed photo of the back of someone’s eye which can help monitor eye health. The store also uses Digital Precision Eyecare, a cutting edge new way of selecting and fitting customers’ glasses using imaging software on tablet devices.


Customers seeking the latest in fashionable eyewear need look no further that Specsavers Crumlin, which boasts over 1,200 frames from top designers including Love Moschino, Hackett and Twiggy for Aurora, and a team of highly trained stylists to ensure customers choose the perfect pair of specs to suit their face shape and overall style.  Staff can also offer customers expert advice to contact lens wearers.


In addition to being experts in eye health, Specsavers Crumlin also offers hearing services, with a clinic held every Thursday overseen by highly skilled audiologist Stephen Danczak. All hearing tests are free and complete digital hearing aids start from €750. Customers are also given the opportunity to take a three-minute hearing check to assess whether they need a full hearing test.
